CRANDON PUBLIC LIBRARY JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:  Library Clerk I

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part time 23 hours per week, typically afternoon hours.  Some morning and  evening hours may be required.

REPORTS TO: Library Director

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent.  Previous experience in a library or customer service setting is preferred.   Proficient in computer technology.  Ability and willingness to complete necessary training and travel for training and/or meetings when needed.

SUMMARY POSITION: Inter-Library Loan and Catalog Lead Staff.  Provide support to library patrons and staff, assist in managing library resources, perform a variety of clerical tasks to enhance the library experience, and assume the operational responsibilities for the library in the absence of the Library Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Catalog library materials.
  2. Inter-Library Loan Coordinator.
  3. Assist patrons with locating and using library resources, including books, computers, printers, electronic databases, and online catalogs.
  4. Answer questions and provide information about library services, policies, and procedures.
  5. Assist with check-in and check-out of library materials and handle item renewals and library space reservations.
  6. Issue new registration cards.
  7. Perform clerical duties, such as filing, data entry, statistics and reports.
  8. Support the coordination of library programs, events, and activities.
  9. Cleans and repairs library materials.
  10. Perform light housekeeping.
  11. Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  1. Complete the VCAT and Cataloging training as required.
  2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Proficiency in using computers, library software, and office equipment.
  4. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  5. Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
  6. Ability to read professional literature and apply knowledge to day-to-day library functions.
  7. Ability to work independently and respond to changing work demands.
  8. Ability to follow detailed instruction and follow library policies and procedures.
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality of library patron materials.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Bending, twisting and reaching.
  2. Far vision at 20 feet or further, Near vision at 20 inches or less.
  3. Keyboarding, writing, filing, sorting, shelving and processing.
  4. Lifting and/or carrying up to 35 pounds.
  5. Some pushing of up to 75-100 pounds on wheels.
  6. Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
  7. Talking and hearing in person and on the phone.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Flexible work hours.  Some morning and/or evening hours may be required.
  2. Indoor/outdoor work environment.
